Yes, come visit us! We are located at 603 W. Main Street in Sun Prairie. Our showroom has beautiful vignettes and carries many selections – Cabinets, countertops, tile, flooring, plumbing fixtures and more.
No appointment is needed to visit our showroom. Our regular business hours are Monday-Thursday 8:30-5:00, and Friday 8:30-4:30.
If you would like to meet with a designer, we do encourage you to schedule an appointment ahead of time, to ensure the highest level of service.
When you decide to renovate your home, you can hire a designer to create the concept art, and then hire a contractor to bring the design to life. Or, you can hire a design/build company to handle every step of the process from start to finish.
JW offers a design/build remodeling process to unify the workflow from initial concept to project completion. This means you have one contract, one point of contact, and one team working in unison to bring your vision to life.
The benefits of this approach include lower costs, improved communication, fewer change orders, and faster project completion. We recommend the design/build option for anyone hoping for a streamlined home renovation project.
Initial Remodeling Consultation
Your remodel design begins with an initial consultation with one of our team members, during which we will listen to your like and dislikes as well as your needs.
We will also take reference photos and measurements of your space(s) to be remodeled.
Design Agreement
Next, we will consult with our in-house design/build team regarding your project, to provide you an estimate range.
If you decide to move forward and retain JW’s services for your remodel, we will review & sign a design agreement. This will begin the process of creating your plans and start designing.
Plans & Selection Meeting
Our designers will work with 3D-view rendering software, and begin bringing your new space to life.
During the selection process, we’ll go over options from cabinets to countertops, plumbing fixture to paint; among other exciting design details.
Contract Meeting & Remodel Documents
JW Design/Build team and homeowner meet to review and sign off on the remodel design that has been created and cost that has been established.
If everything is approved, we proceed with the contract. This includes the initial down deposit, progress payments made during the remodel, materials to be used, and estimated time frame. Initial down payment is received.
Project Delivery
Upon your signing of the construction contract, we begin ordering cabinetry & materials, allocating manpower, and JW begins creating the project schedule.
ESTIMATE: is free and is an educated price range that is prepared for your project.
DESIGN AGREEMENT: means you chose to select JW as your contractor but you are not quite sure yet on the design you want to build. The agreement is for the design portion only so you can come to an agreement of the design and final project price prior to signing a contract for the full contract amount.
NOTE: If you are completing a large/major renovation (such as a whole house remodel or addition), the price of the project may fluctuate as you move through the process.
The estimate range is based on many factors such as square footage, the scope of work, the age and condition of your home, and the level of materials you want to include in your remodel. We also factor in our history with projects similar to yours and current market conditions.
We have spent over a quarter of a century in this business, our job is to help you see your vision become a reality. If we do not have a realistic starting point, then we cannot design a space that is within your budget. There is nothing more frustrating for you as the client to get a design back that you love and realize that it is double or triple what you have to spend.
If you have no idea where to start for budget numbers, we always suggest looking at the Cost vs. Value report. You can see the report directly from Remodeling Magazine here.
We cover Dane County and much of South-Central Wisconsin. Our work does expand past these areas; however, additional trip charges apply depending on the location, scope of work and type of remodel.
Our goal is to customize a remodeling contract that serves your needs and includes everything necessary to ensure an excellent remodeling experience. Generally, our contracts include all design work, permitting, materials and labor needed for your project.
We do not include kitchen appliances in your costs or contracts. Sometimes other exceptions may include, decorative lighting, painting etc. however, if you choose to handle those on your own, we will not warranty these items or work.
We do not include the cost of concealed conditions such as poor soil conditions, structural deficiencies uncovered by our work, or any other circumstance that was not reasonably discoverable in the evaluation and planning process.
JW will file for all of your construction permits.
We employ both our own team of carpenters and subcontractors. The subcontractors we work with have all worked with JW on many remodeling jobs throughout several years. They are all licensed and insured, as well as covered under our license and insurance.
A change order is a written agreement between the client and the contractor to change a remodeling contract.
Change orders add to, delete from, or otherwise alter the work set forth in the contract documents at the time that the construction contract was bid.
Change orders can be generated because of code changes, unforeseen conditions, or homeowners wanting to add or change the remodel project materials and/or labor.
All of our workmanship comes with a 2-year warranty. Product warranties from each individual product we provide and install will range depending on the manufacturer.
At times, our clients will provide their own finishes, decorative lighting, and/or bathroom mirrors that we will then install.
We have learned that in order for us to provide the most efficient construction experience, we need to be responsible for supplying all of the other materials needed to complete your project.
In general, yes you can! Our carpenters take care to section off the area where they are working to minimize disturbance through the rest of your house so you can experience livable remodeling.
Construction is messy. It is dirty and dusty. Before it is beautiful, it is a construction zone. However, we respect your property by laying down clean tarps as needed and cleaning the work space and traffic areas daily.
